Solar Observing Day 2005

On July 9th, the Springfield Astronomical Society set up their telescopes at the Discovery Center’s ‘Einstein on Ice’ exhibit.
We had four telescopes set up to view the sun, including Dave Burtrum’s Ha solar telescope.

From 75 to 100 people were able to view the sun’s several large sunspots, and the solar prominences.
Everyone was very impressed with the views.

Inside the Discovery Center, Clark Van Scoyk had the portable AstoLab Planetarium set up from The Orion Center, and gave lectures throughout the day.

Thank to everyone that participated, and to the Discovery Center that allowed us set up our telescopes there.
