I'm a few days late for the 4th of July, but here
is a recent image of NGC 6946 also known as the
Fireworks Galaxy. It is an active spiral galaxy
about 22 million light-years away on the border
between the constellations Cepheus and Cygnus.
Since NGC 6946 is near to the galactic plane it
is difficult to image through the dust & gas.
Many star forming areas can be observed and at
least nine supernovae have been discovered within NGC 6946 over the years.
