Planetary Nebula NGC 246 is located in Cetus about 1600 ly away. The large foreground star in the middle is blocking the central white dwarf star (bulge near its 8 o'clock position). This PLN is a little low to get much more detail with my equipment.

Am breaking my own rule one more time. I reprocxeesed the IC434 one more time an manually removed 1 sub that had a very bright airplane streak. Image Plus added 8 more frames of the total 51 frames...anyway, here it is. This is the last time I will hit this target this season. I am galaxy hunting now...

Here's a new image I did of the Horsehead and Flame nebulas this morning. I used the Explore Scientific 80mm APO with the AT 2" Field Flattener on the Canon XSi. The Explore Scientific was being guided by my 10" LX200 on the standard fork mount on a wedge. Guide Camera was the Meade DSI with the Meade 6.3 Focal Reducer on the 10" scope. This image consists of 37-7 minute light subs (ISO 800), 9 Darks (ISO 800), 75 Flat Frames (ISO 800) and 100 Bias Frames (ISO 800). Processed in Images Plus 3.80a.

M45 - During a half moon. This image did not turn out as good as I hoped it would. 16-4 minute subs, 10 darks and 25 flats. Imaged with the Explore Scientific 80mm APO with the Orion Moon and Sky glow filter and Astro-Tech Field flattener. Processed in Images Plus 3.8.

One of my goals last night when testing the autoguiding was to get a half-way decent image of M33. I did try but high, thin clouds came in and I had to move to a differnent target. This image consists of 13-4 minute light frames, 10 darks and 25 flat frames. Imaged with the Explore Scientific 80mm APO, autoguided by the Meade DSI on the 10" LX200 scope at F 6.3. Processed in Images Plus 3.8. I did not get enough time on this and will try this galaxy again soon.

Imaging in Alt-Az can be limiting even on some of the bigger, brighter objects. I never did get an image I was happy with of M31 in Alt-Az. Here's an image of the Andromeda Galaxy I took last night 10-15-10 with a half moon up with my system wedge-mounted. Used the Orion Moon and Skyglow filter and Astro-tech Field Flattener. Imaged with the Explore Scientific 80mm APO, guided by a Meade DSI in the 10" LX200 at F6.3. 91-2 minute light frames, 25 dark frames and 50 flat frames. Processed in Images Plus 3.8.

IC434 - The horsehead nebula. This is a test exposure I did while trying to work out some autoguiding issues in the morning of 10-16-10. Image consists of 14-4 minute light frames, 10 Darks and 50 flats. I have a few anomalies in the image but it ended up processing better than I thought.

A quick and dirty Rosette from 10/10/10. This is 55 subs 90 seconds each taken between 2:20 and 3:55 AM plus 20 darks and 60 flats. This image taken with my modified 40D using a Hyperstar lens on a carbon fiber Celestron Nexstar 11 mounted on a Losmandy CG-11. This is an improvement over the Alt-Az version I did last year but I think this one could benefit from some additional processing.

I haven't posted a new image in quite a while. Until last night, I've been in Alt-Az...Now the 10" LX200ACF is mounted on a wedge and an autoguider was installed. I physically did the work myself by have to give thanks to John Moody and Mark Sibole for their guidance. Before yesterday, I was taking up to 50 second subs, last night, I was taking 330 second subs - quite the difference. The Rosetta is realistically not attainable in Alt-Az without Hyperstar. Here is a quick and dirty processing job (I'll do more work on it later). It was very different to see my old pal (10" LX200) at strange angles while the polar alignment was being done but it did the job nicely. The following equipment was used to get this image...
Explore Scientific 80mm APO riding piggyback on the 10" LX200ACF. The 10" was setup with the Meade .63 focal reducer and Meade DSI 1 camera with PHD (for autoguiding). The Canon XSi was on the Explore Scientific 80mm APO. The image consists of 34-330 second light subs, 10-330 second darks and 16 flats. Processing done in Images Plus 3.80a. No further processing done as of yet.
